AHK-Cu (also known as Copper Tripeptide-3) is a synthetic copper-binding peptide composed of three amino acids: Alanine, Histidine, and Lysine bound to a copper ion (Cu^{2+}).

While closely related to the well-known GHK-Cu (Copper Tripeptide-1), AHK-Cu is specifically engineered and studied for hair follicle stimulation, scalp health, and hair restoration.

How AHK-Cu Works

The primary mechanism of action relies on the combination of the AHK peptide sequence (which acts as a biological messenger) and copper (an essential trace element for tissue structure and enzymatic reactions):

1. Stimulates Dermal Papilla Cells: Dermal papilla cells located at the base of the hair follicle regulate the hair growth cycle. AHK-Cu promotes the proliferation and survival of these key cells.

2. Extends the Anagen (Growth) Phase: It helps prolong the active growth phase of the hair cycle while delaying transition into the shedding phase.

3. Encourages Microcirculation: It supports vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activity, increasing blood flow, oxygen, and nutrient supply to dormant or weakening hair follicles.

4. Protects Against Follicle Miniaturization: Helps mitigate localized damage caused by inflammation and dihydrotestosterone (DHT).

5. Supports Scalp ECM & Collagen: Boosts collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans (like hyaluronic acid) in the scalp, strengthening the skin barrier and follicle anchor.
