Glutathione (often called the body's "Master Antioxidant") is a naturally occurring tripeptide (\gamma-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine) composed of three amino acids: glutamine, cysteine, and glycine.

Unlike most antioxidants derived from dietary intake (like Vitamin C or Vitamin E), glutathione is produced endogenously within almost every cell of the human body, with the highest concentrations found in the liver.

Primary Key Mechanisms

 Free Radical Neutralization: Directly neutralizes reactive oxygen species (ROS), free radicals, and heavy metals by donating an electron, protecting cellular DNA, proteins, and lipids from oxidative damage.

 Phase II Liver Detoxification: Binds (conjugates) to fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals, pesticides, and metabolic waste products in the liver, transforming them into water-soluble compounds that can be safely excreted via bile or urine.

 Mitochondrial Protection: Maintains inner mitochondrial membrane integrity and prevents oxidative stress from degrading cellular energy (ATP) production.

 Recycling Other Antioxidants: Regenerates depleted Vitamin C and Vitamin E back into their active, functional antioxidant forms.

 Tyrosinase Inhibition & Skin Brightening: Inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase and shifts melanin synthesis from dark pheomelanin/eumelanin to lighter pigment pathways, leading to systemic skin brightening effects.
