Tirzepatide (brand names Mounjaro and Zepbound) is a synthetic 39-amino-acid peptide engineered as a dual GIP and GLP-1 receptor agonist.  

Unlike single-acting incretin mimetics (such as semaglutide, which only targets GLP-1), tirzepatide acts as a "twincretin". It combines the sequences of GIP (glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide) and GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) into a single unimolecular backbone, yielding synergistic effects on metabolic control, insulin sensitivity, and substantial body weight reduction.  

Primary Key Mechanisms
